Paris as Subject and Laboratory

A French government scholarship enabled Barnet to continue his education in Paris. He studied at the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts and the École du Louvre and encountered the city as both subject and artistic laboratory.

These paintings do not merely record places. They test how observed reality can be transformed through contour, compressed space and colour.
