The catalogue associated with the collection preserves Max Švabinský's description of Barnet's painting as possessing “a distinctive harmony of colour.”

Barnet's paintings are at once direct and structurally considered. Blue often acts as an anchor, while brick red, pale green, white and warmer accents organise the surface into vivid relationships.

Across streets, gardens, faces and bouquets, he used line not simply to describe forms, but to connect them and give the whole image a distinct internal rhythm.
