This funnel-form piece is part of Fuminori Fukami's Manga Oribe, in which the artist works within one of Oribe ceramics' functional categories — pouring vessels, cups, tea bowls and sake bottles — while overlaying it with imagery drawn from manga and ukiyo-e sources including Hokusai Manga and prints associated with Utagawa Kuniyoshi. The irregular, asymmetrical profile long associated with Oribe ware is retained here, its distortion treated as an expressive quality rather than a flaw, while black graphic line and saturated Oribe-type glaze carry the figurative imagery across the curved surface. Because a funnel's form directs the eye toward its opening and along its channel, the image necessarily fragments and reforms as the object is turned or used, so the vessel's practical function becomes part of how the picture is read rather than separate from it. As throughout the series, the ceramic object itself — its clay, glaze, rim and irregular form — remains visible beneath the drawing, so pottery and image continue to occupy the same surface rather than one replacing the other.
